Jump to: Page 1 Page 2. Atlus’ Shin Megami Tensei IV remains one of my favorite games of this decade — a deep, complex, and incredibly surprising RPG built on a fascinating premise. Due to its 3DS exclusivity, SMT4 never really found the enormous audience it deserved, but any serious RPG fan has, in my opinion, an obligation to experience it for themselves. Or rather, its sequel of sorts. Called «SMT4 Final» in Japan, Apocalypse evidently began as a remixed ultimate version of the RPG before mutating into a work that goes in its own direction but doesn’t quite stand alone. It’s more of a side story to SMT4 than a sequel, tied closely to the previous game’s plot while centering on a new hero. As such, Apocalypse recycles a great deal of SMT4’s content, yet it doesn’t entirely feel like a rehash.

Demons and humans co-exist, but in this state, the remnants of humankind are just a prize being fought over by the higher deities. One lone hunter, the game’s protagonist, meets an early demise and through a pact with a lesser god, is brought back to life in exchange for his pledge of servitude.

From there, the protagonist allies with other hunters in the ruins of post-apocalyptic Tokyo beginning a plot that crosses over with the events of the original shin Miami Tensei iv. Is Dagda simply an opportunistic lesser god or is he part of something much bigger?

The story of Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse focuses on a Hunter cadet protagonist who gets killed by one of the demons treating post-apocalyptic Tokyo as their personal playground. If you have any love or interest in myths and religions of other countries, this game is great, as you collect the demons and gods, you get little snippets of information about them, and if you know a bit about them, you know how to entice them to join you as an ally.

The best part though is everything you apocallypse is through a phone, so once you get a cell phone, and enough «app points» you can work on your skill tree and it is a great mechanic. For instance a fertility goddess with a giant belly as if pregnant, and 6 breasts.

This game makes me wish I had gotten into them earlier. One person found this helpful. I haven’t had a chance to play much of it, since my copy arrived earlier today. I’m a fan of the series and trying to get some friends into it, so I don’t mind purchasing a second — esp.

However, I think expectations and reality should factor into a subjective review. While you don’t have to play the original SMT IV as there are recaps to the first game, the first game sets up the characters you’ll meet in the previous game more depth. The gameplay uses the smirk system which improves the Press Turn system more by allowing insta kill skills to be much more fair rather than getting 1 shot by a mob.

The Persona-esque elements in the game are prevalent with a party full of anime tropes which not all hardcore SMT fans would enjoy. The game feels it is a spinoff to the mainline SMT games and still does.

I was having so much fun with it I had to buy it twice — my girlfriend would watch me playing it and wanted to play it for. Refusing to share save files paid off, we ended up playing it side-by-side in bed many a nights. Comparing our demon party loadouts at various points was really neat, and we each took different stat progression paths on the protagonist, so we got to see how different parts were easier or harder for the.

The demon fusion system and whispers are so well shen, loads of content. Combat is pretty good, not my favorite in the series, but pretty good. What more than makes up for it not being the best Shin Megami’s ever offered is that death is a supported mechanic in the game, none of that «game over, load your gte nonsense. Serious story: We had to stop playing I stopped too, didn’t want her feeling left out when my girlfriend’s wrist started hurting.

She popped into the doctors to see what was up. Apparently holding a 3DS for 7 hours straight can cause some repeated-strain injuries I was ahead, she wanted to catch up while I was wmt4 work. She still loves it, even after having to take a forced break from it breaking. This game takes please near the ending of IV neutral route. Jonathan and Walter are off to their gods oyu fuse with them and Flynn is making his own path for the people of Tokyo. You are the true background here of the smt iv world.

Amazing game. It will get you hooked and keep you hooked. There are yoj improvements over its predecessor. The battle system was balanced out, so it’s not as easy to cheese out anymore. The party members apoclaypse actually useful and don’t mess up your turns anymore. Also, the story starts in a place that pits you right in the heart of the action.

It truly deserves the high scores it has been getting! Excellent JRPG. I really like the music and artwork. Shipping was great, as expected.
